1975 - 1978: My first real band, Sapphire.

Boy, we really knew how to take promo pictures! Probably
from watching too many Monkees re-runs.

Leroy Sickau on vocals. Leroy was one of those guys that nobody really paid much attention to. Then over summer vacation between our junior and senior year he just, well, "bloomed"! He came to school the first day of our senior year with a new haircut and girls just about fell outta their chairs! Leroy was a ton of fun, a good friend, and an excellent front man for our age and experience. He used to take his belly button and squish it in such a way that made it look like a pussy. Betcha didn't think I remembered that, didja!

One of my favorite shots of Sapphire. Leroy and I pretending we're Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. We used to do this during "Walk this way".

Dennis "Puberty" Hertz on bass. Dennis was a great bass player, honest to a fault and an extremely dependable person. I know when he sees these pages and the fact that I put his old nickname up here I will have a contract out on my life!
