Grandon Westlund

Title: Basket Case ©
Label: Sonic Smack Records
Format: CD
Release Date: Spring 2006

Update: September 2005

I was very busy with Dino at his studio in Colorado working on the bass and drum parts for Basket Case©. I must say, Dino has been a pleasure to work with and has done an excellent job of getting my live sound recorded. As I really like collaborating with other musicians, we're looking for a few guitarists who might want to contribute to the project, and as such, you can listen to 4 rough unmixed demo versions of "Deeper The Blue ©", "Let It Ride ©", "Fumblestix ©" (I even blew a rough second bass part and solo on this track for fun...); and "Silver Feathers ©" on his site. If you think you can write and record a great guitar part over the top of any of them, follow the instructions on the Cuneo Productions page for the project from his site at: site is at:

http://www.cuneoproductionsltd.com/grandon_westlund.htm

Here are the original VERY rough tracks of the first 3 cuts for my solo project, "Basket Case ©". Caveat - these were done on an old 4 track machine at 1:00 in the morning after a 5 hour rough demo recording session for a different project. We had a beer or two and were very tired, therefore there are a few mistakes where my fingers got ahead of my numb brain.... Andy Zuniga on drums and me on bass live to tape, no overdubs, punch ins, etc (final versions have been re-recorded with Dino Cuneo on drums and guitar and keyboard parts are being added as well). Sound quality ain't the best either. I am providing them here for your critiques and feedback only. These tracks are quite a bit more "jazz-ish" than any work I have done or other bands I have been in (although I have made a concious effort to keep them in mostly major keys, etc., to keep them "approachable"), and I really like this style of music, I was just never able to find a band that was interested in doing the same type of thing on the same level, hence my creating a solo project on the side.

- Fumblestix © 2002, Grandon Westlund
- Silver Feathers © 2002, Grandon Westlund

Here are some rough tracks of a few songs for the CD. These are just samples of the basic bass tracks with my bass plugged direclty into my PC and with a drum machine. The purpose of these tracks was to capture the idea of the song, send it in for copyrighting, and to provide to the drummer for him to work up his drum parts. Anyway, give `em a listen and lemme know whatcha think. I'm also working on an all bass version of Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein", as well as a bass, drums and keys version of Jeff Beck's "Freeway Jam".
